.. and the record deals start to flow in..
I think this is a little premature. Whether I like the Idol winner or not, I always think that it is unfair that they announce who is getting a contract even before the winner is announced. I am not saying that only the winner deserves a contract, but give the winner a chance to bask in their glory. I remember SONY BMG did it with lee Harding… yeah look how successful that has been for them!

Labels swoop on latest stars

IT’S still a month out from the Sydney Opera House finale, but record companies are already queueing up for the chance to sign the remaining Australian Idol finalists.
While ratings for the Channel Ten program have fallen slightly flat this year, the diverse array of talent is right on song to pull in lucrative dollars for the nation’s biggest labels.
Both series favourite Matt Corby, along with Natalie Gauci and Marty Simpson have all been propositioned by managers and agencies eager to snare themselves a number one Idol artist, a la 2006 winner Damien Leith.
While Idol affiliate Sony BMG is given the first option on the deals, all the other record companies are then able to swoop on their hit picks 30 days after the series winner as been announced in the finale.
With his pitch-perfect tones and bearing dreamy eyes to match, teenage heart-throb Matt Corby is likely to emerge a winner even if he doesn’t grab the Australian Idol crown – and manager Ralph Carr and executive producer Ross Fraser both agree.
Carr - who manages the music careers of both Vanessa Amorosi and Kate Ceberano – approached Corby during the ARIA Awards ceremony held on Sunday night.
“He was really nice and supportive, and just said if I ever needed any advice to call him,” Corby told Confidential during lunch yesterday.
Last female standing, Gauci, revealed that she had been approached by both Mushroom Records and Sony BMG, while Idol judge Kyle Sandilands - who has just helped to secure his girlfriend Tamara Jaber a US record deal - has told Central Coast dude Simpson that several US labels have expressed interest in his chilled-out style.
Riseley, who was still suffering from the effects of a flu he contracted a few weeks ago, is the only Idol yet to be pursued – however the popular crooner and dark horse is hardly fazed.
“I guess that means I’ll just have to win it then,” Riseley said.

I guess Carl hasn’t been approached because the labels expect him to win and therefore gain the contract from fony/bmg. I know that some think that Matt is the front runner, but the “Matt’s” of the comp never win (think: Rob Mills, Anthony Callea, Lee Harding, Dean Geyer – note that they all do go on to at release some material commercially post-idol) so I think the industry is not even bothering to go after Carl. Maybe that’s just me…. I just hope we get a decent Natalie album, and not a rushed piece of fluff when she win’s!! *wink* Looking forward to purchaisng Natalie’s Winner’s Journey CD. =)
Peace and stethoscopes!

I expect we’ll have a number of very, very successful idols this year, and lots of their material released next year… and I presume young Ben will also be a finalist with record companies and managers keen to sign him up.

id like 2 see carl, natalie and ben release succesful albums and mayb marty.. the rest i hope i can say is history tarasai, lana, holly, brianna, daniel, mark and Matt have brought nothing diff to the comp all the same old stereotypes.. aw and Jakey B he shoulda let his dream die wen he lost X factor to the like of Random, that old thing rosalyn and russel oh not mentions “hottie of the season” Vincent…

best of luck to Natalie, and also i hope that Ben gets picked up by a record company, would be great to see them 2 release some stuff
)
) yay.
however, matt; is boring to me, yeah he has a great voice, but it bores me & every record he would release would be the same. Natalie & Ben are different to your everyday pop princess & prince’s.

Poor Carl. Hope he keep his spirit up.
Possie, I would love Lana become an actress actually, she’s quite beautiful.
Back to idol, Nat is in the danger zone of getting eliminated ’cause the guys have such strong fan base….hope she get through.

I think Carl WANTS to be a carbon copy of Buble, so I wonder why would anyone bother with him?
Perhaps if Buble has a terrible accident, then go chase down Carl and see what he’s up to, in the mean time Buble does brilliantly what Carl wishes he could do at all.

Milorad, that is garbage…..you obviously haven’t been watching! Carl has done a really good selection of different genre’s and quite successfully! And keep in mind, he is still in the comp.!

I remember the first two years of Idol the saying went “There can only be ONE Australian Idol”…. pfft right. One week after winning in 2004, Casey Donovan found an immediate opposition in her own stables – Anthony Callea was signed by S/BMG AND signed up to the Karma agency – both supposed to be supporting THE WINNER. Of course BOTH concentrated purely on Callea, leaving Casey to rot in his dust. Im still pissed off at that. But then you see the same thing happening each year – Lee Harding got more support and promotion than Kate ever got, Dean Geyer gets more support than Damien. This year they finally announce that S/BMG will ONLY sign the winner. Pfft. If they think they can make a quick buck out of a Ben or Matt or Marty, they’d do it in a heart beat… oh, wait, they don’t have a heart.

As for whose CD I’d buy out of the remaining finalists? Definitely Matts, Carls and Nats. Would only buy Marty’s if I needed a cure to insomnia. Of the other Idols this year – probably Ben would be the only other one.

i really looking forward for nat’s album !

Goldie, sorry, he’s only done that because Dicko chased him with a branding iron.
Think back to the times he was trying to pass off standards as rock songs. That’s what he WANTS… what you like about him, is what Dicko etc made him do to fit the show.
With free reign, he’s back to pretending to be buble, only with twice the scat.

Carl is not buble, he is carl himself. If you stop comparing then you see how good he is. They sing the same stuff but they’re 2 different artists.
Jenny, i agree. It’s all about money for those big belly managers up there.
Friday, 2 November, 2007 at 12:09 pm
Stop comparing? – How? They sound exactly the same, only buble is cooler and has better tonal control
They even have the same vocal timbre. If buble ever put voice-locks on his house, Carl could use it as a summer home.

hello to all the mob there i think that you’s are doing all fine don’t take notice of all the people saying bad stuff just remember when they say stuff it only makes you stronger like sticks and stones may break my bones but name will never hurt me and just something from me you’s all deadly from tim barlow in mareeba

marty’s and matt’s albums for me! =) they’re the only 2 left that are “different” from what’s out in the market already. natalie is too similar to every other female power vocalist out there, and carl = buble (although i still do like those two.. i just wouldn’t be lining up to buy their cds)
Friday, 2 November, 2007 at 9:50 pm
So as long as they’re different thats all that matters?
If so, I should probably release a CD myself. I suck worse than marty, but I’m different… that’s good right?
Saturday, 3 November, 2007 at 1:32 pm
Milorad, we talking about marketing here and if you have a large fan base like marty then the record label of course will sign you up. Of course you can release a CD, problem is who will buy it?
Marty can’t sing main stream pop song, but you have to agree that he did have some strong performances. I don’t like his singing in general but there are some song that i would love to have on my CD. its quite relaxing after a long day of hardwork.

ii would personally buy matts album because he has the best voice
Saturday, 3 November, 2007 at 3:38 pm
milorad, of COURSE they have to be good. i thought that was implied. i think all four of them are talented. i’m just saying, when everyone has proved themselves to be talented, the next step is to show there’s something to differentiate them from all the other singers currently out in the market.
Saturday, 3 November, 2007 at 3:54 pm
I guess that’s where we differ Amy, I think Marty’s bleating vibrato is only any good for certain pearl jam songs, where bleating vibrato is the entire point.
He could cover belinda carlisle… or bait dingo traps for sheep farmers…
