Final 5 – Aussie Hitz
I normally try not to look at the Idol’s song choices prior to watching the show. Just because I like to be surprised as I watch and write my blog. This time I didn’t have that leisure because I went to see the final 5 perform at Westfield Parramatta yesterday, so I know what they are going to sing. Regardless of this fact, I am looking forward to a great show.
1. Matt – 20 Good Reasons.
I think this will be excellent for Matt! It’s a great song. Playing the piano is impressive.. I mean not necessarily that he can play… but it’s great to see them with their instruments on stage, they feel comfortable. WOW I am impressed so far, his trills and licks are perfect! This is a beautiful song, whether performed as a ballad or as a rock song. I was kind of waiting for it to take off a little more than it did. However this was a solid and touching effort. Well done Matt, I am glad you stepped back, listened to the judges comments and took on board what you felt was necessary. I am sure your ego was bolstered yesterday having thousands of screamers every time you spoke!! hehe… I agree with Mark, he could have looked up a little more. 8/10
(p.s last week I plugged Guy’s Umbrella… this week I want to plug Chris Sebastian’s (Guy’s little bro) duet with Tom Jordan of “20 Good Reasons” when they were both supporting acts for Guy Sebastian’s latest tour. Stay tuned to this blog, I will ask a friend to upload it during the week. I think both of these young men are up and coming stars!!)
2. Natalie – Boys In Town
I am totally and completely in love with Natalie now. She has completely won me over after seeing her live and her beautiful personality. I have said it before, she is entirely UNDER RATED in this competition and I hope that Australia wakes up and sees how GREAT she is! She is looking smokin’ tonight… I think it’s great that she is playing the piano too, and using the band!! She is such a versatile artist with an amazing voice, she can do anything, and she has complete control over her voice and performance. THAT GLORY NOTE.. this is what I was waiting for from Matt. I don’t care what Mark says or does… TOUCHDOWN! TOUCHDOWN! TOUCHDOWN! TOUCHDOWN! From J.D! 9.9/10
Marcia is exactly on the money… Natalie is a OUTSTANDING PERFORMER!!!
3. Marty – These Days
I recently saw Powderfinger in concert with Silverchair. Powderfinger were simply amazing. They are brilliant talents and deserve to win many ARIA awards tonight. Let’s hope marty does them some justice. Marty is not always easily distinguishable.. however it doesn’t really matter with a song like these, I dare to say that most people are familiar with it. I guess the trouble will come when it is time for his to release his own originals. I am growing more and more to like Marty. I think this kinda flatlined a little bit, there was not much variation between verse and chorus.. I even heard the crowd kind of begin to clap as he sang the chorus the last time, but they kinda faded away quickly after noticing that he did not take off. 7/10
4. Tarisai – When It All Falls Apart
I feel for Tarisai. It’s not fair, I think she is young.. and probably a little immature, as we ALL are when we are 20. The reports recently have not been so harsh, I have a problem attacking teens on their personality when they are DEVELOPING their identity and personalities. In spite of all the rubbish that has been thrown her way from media (and previous [boring!] idol’s last week.) I think she is an amazing singer, she has amazing control and a HUGE range. She commands the stage, she gives her all… What more do we expect from young adult?
I think Kyle gave her a a very heart felt and meaningful chat. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRR SLAP THOSE 2 OLD WANKERS ON THE END OF THE TABLE!! Give the girl a break. I am steaming FOR her. They knew she was already down about this issue… yet they bring out the term to kick her while she is down. Cowardly grumpy old bastards!
There are idol’s who have stood on that stage over the last 5 years, whom the judges have been in love an ‘ga-ga over’ who showed less emotion and feelings on stage than a broomstick. They’ve even touchdowned performances with less emotion that that!
I don’t know what they want from her, at least Kyle gave her some good advice. I don’t know if everyone is going to agree with me… but just saying “you’re fake” is piss-weak judging at best. I would like to ask Mark and dicko to explain exactly HOW she is supposed to have shown more emotion. Perhaps next week she should walk up to the judging table and punch BOTH Mark and Dicko in the throats.. and then see what they say about her not having enough emotion.. I mean come on!!!
When I am amongst my friends, I am a little crazy! One of my nick-names is Clowny, and that is who I am when I am with them. In other circumstances, such as at my workplace and with certain crowds, I am a well spoken, mannered and professional person. There is NO WAY I would get up on stage and act like the clown that I am with my mates. In fact if I did (and also if she did…) the judges would slam me (and her) for being too weird, or maybe even too innappropriate for a musical performance in front of the nation.
I am not going to review her performance tonight, I am just going to get on the phone and vote… hard.
5. Carl – Reminiscing.
I was still ranting on about Tarisai the whole way through Carl’s performance that I had to rewind and watch again. Carl is another one who reallyu impressed me yesterday, he was so natural and genuinely appreciative of all the fans there. He is looking ‘happy’ or something tonight. He seems comfortable up there on stage. Good on him! I think Carl has huge potential and will go very far with or without the title of “Australian Idol 2007.” 8.5/10
This is a difficult one, and as they are all great in their own right. And as much as he has grown on me over the season, the only person I would like to see go tomorrow night is Marty Simpson. I think for any of the other 4 to go this week would be a Travesty. However as long as it’s not Natalie or Carl I will be able to deal with it. Especially seeing as though I am going to be there live tomorrow night. Regardless of what happens – Ricki-Lee will be performing tomorrow night, and that will make me extremely happy
Peace and cookies!

the judges were quite slack to tarisai, but as i think she is the weakest contestant left, i won’t be throwing any pity votes her way. bottom 3 prediction: matt, tarisai, marty.. hopefully tarisai to go.
by the way, what was up with matt.. really? he looked really really sad. he didn’t even smile when he was complimented.

tarasai is fake… she is whiny… immature… a bitchy person… anyone can see that
Sunday, 28 October, 2007 at 10:47 pm
jeez…how fake can she be? i mean come on guys? what do u mean by she is fake?

Her manner is unnatural. She pulls the cutsey card but you know she’s drowning babies back-stage.
Her stage “persona” when listening to comments is to lower her chin to her chest, raise her eyes, and dig a toe into the stage floor, like betty boop.
“Thaaaaannnnkyooo DickooooOOooOOoo” *eyelash flutter*
That’s not a ‘real’ response to “your performance was pretty average tonight”
That would be an acceptable response if someone said “your tits look great in that dress, here’s my hotel key”

J.D, if you have to ask ‘how can I be more real’ then you really are lost to begin with.

It was a harsh lesson for Tarisai last night, but to be honest – she put herself up there. The opening salvo when she is in the studio with Mark “Im not fake” she pouts, and on an on she goes. Then she comes out with the most ridiculous wig, chucks little tanties on stage and expects us to believe her? I have a feeling this “episode” has been building for some time. Each week the judges leave little digs “if only we could see the girl backstage” they say. Marty gets lambasted week after week (and deservedly so!) but you don’t see him pulling out the “poor me” card. He just gets on with it. For Marcia (the eternal sticker-upper for picked on poppets) to not stand up for Tarisai speaks volumes. Tarisai has the voice, she is just WAY too immature to have the career.

Amy – how is she the weakest contestant left?! She clearly has one of the best and strongest voices.
I don’t think Tarisai should be judged on her personality, obviously she’s going to be different in front of a million people as opposed to backstage where there’s only twenty or so.

Shut it, Clowny.

i really don’t think that she is fake. Tarisai clearly has one of the better voice of the show compared to carl or marty. Marty just plane sucks and he deserved to get kicked out along time ago. And back on tarisai, I can’t belive that just because you are happy and saying thankyou all the time you can call someone fake. And by wearing a wig etc she is showing a different personality of herself compared to marty who is just boring/ lacks personality and stays the same every week, and carl(who i still like) who sings jazz every week. Since they know what type of artist they wanna be, yet tarisai is experimenting, you clearly can’t critise her for being ‘fake’.

Human nature being what it is, would not allow Tarisai to be the same as when she was rehearsing with Mark. If she had a week to get over the comment that was made on the radio, her feelings would have subsided some what.
Mark and Dicko are just total dicks, with Marcia bringing up the rear. When Ben coped a bit from Mark she went off. Last night she just sat there and said she could say nothing.
What is all this “your not connecting with the song” crap anyway. Must be this years catch phrase. Singers are actors and they are different on and off stage. All the contestants say it, things like ‘I just love preforming in front of an audience.’ Marty’s thing is “I preform better when singing originals.”
I feel that there is a thing against her from Mark and Dicko, they both want Matt to win as he will drag the 10-15 years in. He will just have to do matinee shows to get people in the door.
I, personally think that it would be hard to come out an preform with the feeling of dread hanging over you, and this is why Marty, Carl and Tarisai are having a harder time of it. They seem to receive more negativity than the other did or have.
As I said, singers are actors and their off stage persona should not have any bearing on the way they perform. One singer thought that they were even good enough to try acting on TV and sucked big time, didn’t you Mark Holden.

Doesn’t your last statement, and the fact that most singers make really awful actors kind of disprove your whole point?
In fact, when singers act you get idiotic stereotyped performances with “fake” rockstar moves, like little anthony calea makes with his head when he’s pretending to be ricky martin.
Most singers subscribe to the “fake it till you make it” philosophy, which is why most singers suck.

Oh well, close that chapter. Good riddence to theatrical singers trying to be pop stars.
Try out for the lion king Tarisai, and stay off my television.

To those of you saying singers aren’t actors, I beg to differ. The whole thing about this craft of singing is to connect with the audience. To do that, you have to envelop the song and its lyrics and in so-doing, you then “become” the song. This technique is much like acting – to become the character you are playing is the only way to make it believable. The problem with Tarisai is she just “sang” the song. Vocally brilliant, but no connection what-so-ever with the lyric. This is what Mark Holden harps about week in and week out. The only person I have seen do it consistantly on Idol was Casey Donovan. To a lesser extent, I believe Matt also has the ability. His Bedouin Song on the Doing it for the Kids special was sensational. As a singer, you become the story teller. If you can’t tell the story with absolute commitment to the lyrics, you are just a singer. This was Tarisai’s problem.
