i was on the edge of my seat too! i am glad ben left over matt though. i felt ben had huge favouritism on his side (although i know alot would believe the same of matt). it is a HUGE shock exit though. i was prepared to say goodbye to marty!
note to marcia and cameraman: the catty remark about marty and the camera shot straight to his face were very uncalled for. you can’t get all pissy just because the public like a different contestant than you.

mark was actually being constructive last night! if people vote according to mark, it just goes to show that he is in fact a credible and influential judge. more power to him. if anyone is to blame, it’s marcia for her stupid outburst. that outburst is what would’ve made me NOT vote for whoever she liked. Ben was most obviously amazing in every way.
His voice is angelic and he seems loverly.
Ben is 16 and such a success, his voice is…AMAZING.
Matt also has an amazing voice, but he does get a lot of votes for his amazing looks.
I’m just basically going to miss seeing Ben every week.
i hope to God they get him on a record soon coz i will buy 100.

OMG!! i am sooooo angry!! i have never been so angry like this in a looonnngg tiimmee!! i literally hit the roof man seriously i was already burning up from anger wen i saw dat marty was saved n the bottom 2 was matt n ben coz they r my 2 faves…but BEN WAS MY TOP FAVE!!!! i turned off the tv straight away bcoz i was soo angry im soo pissed off seriously
this show should be more like so you think you can dance..like the public can still vote but the judges should vote off i think that it’s more fair

i agree with all of you that it was a huge shock ben got voted out tonight, but i doubt the comp is rigged! rigging it to give ben the boot makes no sense! ben was hugely popular. wouldn’t producers want to keep him in, and thus, ratings HIGH? i think the problem was you ben fans didn’t vote enough
sorry to say though, i don’t know if you’ll be seeing any cds from him for a while. he always seemed to care more about his film-making.

Hey guys, I go to this site daily – love it and love all you guys for ur opinions, I love reading them. This is the first time i’ve ever said anything, but Ben’s the first contestant besides Jessica & Casey that i’ve ever CARED about. I love Natalie and she’s my pick from now on, but i’m so close to boycotting its ridiculous. If they allow Marty who says he doesn’t want to be there, to stay every week and let great contestants go then there’s only so much we can do… Anyway I was genuinely upset and wanted to express it somewhere. Well i was a little annoyed Ben left, could care less about Matt since every week it’s the same thing – slow a song down and sit on a stool and flutter your eyes. Marcia was out of line, and i hope marty keeps going just to spite her. Overall a pretty crap night – cut this eviction night down to 30 minutes — we don’t need 50 minutes of crap.

It wasn’t fair, but it makes sense when you think about it. The genre was for an older audience, so thats who would have watched and voted. Ben and Matt mostly appeal to younger people, who didn’t like or maybe even know the songs. I think that even though Matt and Ben might have “huge fan bases”, most of the votes are from people who like a particular performance on a particular night, not from crazy fans that vote for the same people every week. :O and Ben and Matt were supposedly a part of the Hillsong conspiracy haha

Dakota (and MARCIA), marty never said he didn’t want to be there. i’m sure, especially given his background, he’s VERY thankful he is. he just acknowledges that he isn’t performing very well BECAUSE he isn’t doing his own stuff. he did say he was learning and is trying though.

Amy – yes i have been watching more than two weeks but i probably should have put that better. I agree with dicko’s comments last sunday – it seems to me (regardless of the song) that Matt does the same perfomance week in week out. He may not be sitting on a stool but the perfomance is the same. Sorry should have stated that in my original post. Regardless with him being in the bottom 2 this week – he is definately on his way to the Opera house regardless of perfomance (due to his fanbase). That’s not to say he doesn’t deserve it though. In my opinion i’m not ready to name an idol, the next few weeks is where it really counts.

I said somewhere else here that I thought the bottom 3 would have been Marty , Daniel and Ben with Ben to be going.
The judges should keep their negativity out of the publics’ eyes, as I feel that this is what changes the votes. People may think that if someone is as good as they are made out to be, then they will get work from some company somewhere, where as the battler needs votes.
Mark Holden should just be axed from the show. If he talked to people the way he does away from the show, he would be dropped like a tree. The 3 blokes must have decided to all switch roles this year.

Marty will only win because his legion of ‘fans’ (if they even care about the music) voting when he gets knocked down. Some people really need to block out the bias and listen to the actual performance and realise it is not idol quality.
I am all for what Marcia said and so glad the cameraman panned onto Marty. I hope that will be enough incentive for him to leave. He doesn’t wanna be there, the judges don’t want him there so why must the public embarrass him further.
If you love him, set him free, haha!!

Well after Marty got sent back to the couch last night I was almost ready for them to tell us it was just a joke and that Ben and Matt were the top two for the night or something.
Far out I was upset when Marty was sent back to the couch. Matt and Ben in the bottom two. What a joke. shattered.
Only good thing about it is I’m one of them Ricki-Lee fans and I’m pretty sure she came seventh to so that is the silver lining of this horrable mistake.
I just hope he gets up a mySpace with his music on it real soon and releases something. Until then All my downloads of him from here will be on repeat for some time.
I’m really gonna miss seeing Ben on Idol. I think too that Matt will at least be top 3 now. His fans will vote more for the next few weeks after his close shave…. I only wish that the Ben fans had the same chance. He was my favorite. ever since he came onto the screen in the auditions I liked him. Then He did Mad World and I was even more loving him. Really gonna miss him.
Hopefully Marty and Daniel will go over the next two weeks. Not that they aren’t talented but I just think their time is up. To me they are consistently no good. Most weeks boring really. Then again I don’t really care who wins now…. Carl could be a dark horse maybe…. possibly Natalie. Does Tarisai annoy enough people to say she will go pretty soon too?

Sad news. Ben was pretty much the only interesting thing on Idol this year. I only watched it to see what he would come up with. Maybe his getting booted was a ploy to unite the Matt and Ben fanbases to reap in the votes, since I find it hard to believe that Ben got the least votes when “Hide and Seek” is number one on the Idol download chart. Whatever it was, I’m not watching Idol anymore… except the final…and only just to see Ben again. Hopefully he’ll put out a CD one day. A lot of people would be interested.
On the other hand, I might vomit if craptacular Marty ends up winning Idol.
And if Matt wins then that’s just cliche. Okay, I’m rambling.

I have a friend that was really mad about the Hillsong thing. She said she would never vote for Ben again…. Maybe a lot of people were thinking the same way???

You guys give me balance. Body: Where do i begin ha ha, firstly just want to say all my fans are absolute maddogs!!!!
tonight im sure was a shock to everyone, i felt being in the bottom three with talented artists like matt and ben i would be leaving, yet im still here!
to be honest i am also getting tired of all these people (including marcia) assuming that i want to leave this competition, its not that i want to leave or that i dont want to be here, it is just that i have not agreed with some of the things that have happened in the show which turned out to be changed, (original night and some other things).
as a result, i feel i have been put in a slight mood which i will overcome and move on. this week i feel is a blessing to me as a artists, i am so stoked i get to play for the kids on friday night and also play my guitar again.
some people seem to think i am not grateful for what has happened to me, i can tell you this has been the best thing that has ever happened to me and my family and i would love to repay Australia with a album and some fun shows when im done.
to me it is only my fans opinions that matter, so all i can say to everyone else who wants to give me their little words of wisdom is “whatever trevor” and i will be all smiles for this week and cant wait to enjoy the shows that are coming our way!!!!!

Why on earth is Marty (who doesn’t want to be on the show) and Carl (a trumpeter) still on the show? Ben on the other hand can sing and wants to be on there!
Thanks to all the judges (except Marcia) for your comments towards Marty – the worse the comment, the more people feel sorry for him and the more they vote for him! How is it Ben, probably the best one in this comp, can leave halfway through, without a touchdown?
Mark, you are insane. Marty, leave, now. Carl, you seem nice enough, but do you really really truly see yourself as a better singer than Ben? Think about it.

Unfortunately I wasn’t a big fan of Ben’s, especially his attitude when he got judged every week and I felt that could very well have been the reason we have lost him. He will leave an enormous hole in the contest, he has an incredable voice. After listening to him on the radio this morning though, he seems far more interested in his film career than his singing career. I really beielve this confident young man will be successful what ever he puts his mind too.

screw this, im not watching idol anymore. ben’s gone – thats it im not watching anymore. basically everyone i know that watchs idol, isn’t going to anymore because ben left. and WTF @ matt corby being in the bottom 2, he is amazing asif he deserved to be in the bottom 2!
what i think happened is the hosts read the cards around the wrong way, when they said ‘and the person going back over to the couch is…’ they should of opened the card that said ben mckenzie and when they said ‘the person leaving us tonight…’ they should of opened the card saying marty simpson.
